From John Frisbie

What I remember about Mr. Kushner is that he was a very friendly, approachable guy.  Giving speeches can be a very nerve wracking experience.  Mr. Kushner had a way of making this otherwise scary endeavor seem almost fun.  He was never judgmental or harsh.  He always seemed supportive and happy about things.  In fact when I picture him in my mind's eye I always see him smiling . . . that shock of black hair, often defying all attempts to subjugate it with a comb, the low key, well modulated voice, his use of hands for emphasis when he talked, and the smiling face.  It was obvious he liked kids and loved what he did for a living.  When he talked to you, he was right there in the moment with you.  He was a great teacher.
