CHATHAM  HIGH  SCHOOL
Class of '63

From Joshua Adams

I was never in Mr. K’s Speech class feeling that I should take a more challenging course, study hall.  Besides, I did Summer Theater with him for 6 or 7 years, not to mention performing The Flattering Word half dozen times.

His real inspiration to me was in exposing me to Shakespeare, Moliere and Wilder.  I fell in love with words and language which lasts unto this day.  I soon was soon gorging myself on Longfellow, Cooper, O’Henry and my favorite, Dickens. I love those who tell a tale and use the language to its fullest, as English is a rich yet subtle tongue.

Eventually, I read all those dry classics that I was supposed to read in good ol’ CHS.  They were a lot more interesting than the Classic Comics I breezed through for book reports.

I’ve noticed that the Flattering Word and George Kelly are making a bit of a comeback.  The play is being performed currently off-Broadway and Portland, Oregon.

Thanks for introducing me to all that beauty.
